Vodkasatan: Sungrazer вместо Gomer Pyle We are very sorry to announce that Gomer Pyle has cancelled their Afterburner appearance. Drummer Sander Evers just left the band, and it will take a while for Gomer Pyle to break in a new drummer, thus the band decided that it´s wise to skip this year’s Roadburn. A decision we respect and support. We hope to have them back next year. Luckily, we found a great replacement in Holland’s very own Sungrazer. Fresh off their tour with labelmates Colour Haze, the band’s fuzz runs deep and won over audiences from Germany to Denmark and from Austria to Holland in the last couple of weeks. Sungrazer‘s warm, heady, definitively European psychedelia bears a considerable resemblance to Colour Haze, but the band leans towards traditional stonerrock too, given their use of heavy riffs, occasional catchy choruses and the overwhelming natural flow of their self-titled debut album, out on Stefan Koglek’s Elektrohasch label. Sungrazer will perform a 75 minute set a the Green Room on Sunday April 17th, and showcase a heavy jam ethic, as they’re definitely one of the most promising bands to appear on the stonerrock scene in a while.

Vodkasatan: We’re excited to announce that The Machine [http://www.myspace.com/themachineband] will be part of this years Afterburner event, set for Sunday, April 17 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. Due to some changes in the production schedule for this years Afterburner, we had the opportunity to add one more band to the line-up. The Machine is a perfect fit, as the overall vibe of Afterburner leans towards classic psychedelic rock and stonerrock, just like the old school Roadburn Festivals! The Machine, hailing from Rotterdam, Holland, pair molten stoner rock riffs with a fair dose of retro psych for good measure. The band also excels at incorporating acid-blues jamming that lifts their whole performance into outer space. The band’s latest album, Drie (out on Elektrohasch) captures the band in great form, and together with Sungrazer, they are two of the most promising bands to emerge from the Dutch stonerrock scene in a while. With the addition of The Machine, the line-up for this years Afterburner event is complete. The line-up is as follows: Black Mountain, Dead Meadow, Coffins, Blood Farmers, Sourvein, Spindrift, Samsara Blues Experiment, Black Pyramid, Dragontears, Sungrazer and The Machine.
Vodkasatan: We’re proud to unveil David V. D’Andrea‘s fourth installment of his Roadburn series: the Sabbath Assembly poster. David comments: “I was lucky enough to catch the Sabbath Assembly’s Portland show last year. It was the day after Halloween, and they transformed a theater space into a ritual setting where they proceeded to awe the small crowd with incredible reworkings of Process Church songs and ritual call and response. I was already familiar with Timothy Wyllie’s book “Love Sex Fear Death”, an inside account of the Process Church, so the live recreation by such fantastic musicians (Jex Thoth, Dave Nuss, Imaad Wasif) and illustrious publisher (Feral House) was an incredible event to witness. Since then, the band has been taking their work to another level, and it seems to be taking on a life of its own. I chose to reference Wyllie’s story, which is very much about the collective lives of the young and beautiful members of the cult, their pet German Shepards, internal conflicts, and ever-changing garb and symbology.” DV
Vodkasatan: We’re proud to unveil David V. D’Andrea‘s next installment of his Roadburn series: the Wovenhand and Circle posters. David comments: “I cannot think of another band of recent years that has inspired me as deeply as Wovenhand. David Eugene Edwards’ song writing, poetry, and approach to life and spirituality embody much of what I would hope for in my own artwork. The album “The Threshing Floor” evokes visions of a lush garden full of Eastern pattern and ghostly fauna, of human kind walking the crushingly beautiful, light filled, wandering path.” “Circle…. on one hand, they are so eclectic that the most off-the-wall drawing might work. On the other hand, they are so incredibly varied and odd that it’s a challenge to think up an image that captures their essence! I chose to start with a skull, since most of their existing designs are based around them. Then, by Jussi’s request, the piece then took a turn towards a nautical “Jules Verne” theme. I like to think of it is a sort of occult compass, which is somehow fitting for the festival’s 2011 “artist in residence”!

Honcho: Смотрю на состав феста этого года, и просто охуеваю, очень круто, даже не смотря на то, что почти нет моих фаворитов. Не страшно, есть огромное количество просто отличных групп, организаторам БРАВО, снимаю шляпу
punknotyet: Моё чисто теоретическое (так как меня там не будет) расписание: Четверг: Quest for Fire (жаль, что Blood Ceremony отпадает по причине пересечения), Pentagram, The Atomic Bitchwax. Пятница: Beaver и C.O.C - остальные команды или не слышал, или страшно слушать. Суббота: Lonely Camel и Stone Axe - комментарий такой же, как и к пятнице. Воскресенье: Единственный действительно кайфовый денёк, по-моему. Sungrazer, The Machine (жаль, что накладка с Dead Meadow), Black Mountain и Samsara Blues Experiment - мои фавориты.

PhillO))): This year, the annual Roadburn Metal Disco returns under the motto “Faster! Heavier! Louder!” after the last band finishes in the Midi Theatre. Once again, the intrepid DJ Maarten & DJ Pat are looking forward to spinning lots of excellent music on Saturday night. Whether it’s classic metal, doom, heavy 70s rock, stoner or thrash, you’re bound to hear something you like. Stagediving from the booth will not be uncommon as the night wears on! On Friday night, Finland’s Psychotropic Caravan will host an afterparty. Renowned for their highly acclaimed underground festivals in Helsinki, this marks their debut appearance at Roadburn. Expect some raucous singalongs (Finnish style) to keep the party going. “Jesus mikä kuosi!” On Thursday night, Holland’s DJ Bomber plus DJ Pat will do the honors with the aptly titled “Hell Bent for Roadburn!” to make the Midi’s infernal sonic baptism complete. Be sure to check it out – even if you don’t have enough energy left after all of the awesome live music to break out your best air guitar moves!

Ghost - да (но этот выбор действительно сложнейший) не могу себе позволить просрать Pentagram с Гриффином, так что на Cough посмотрю в майе (хоть и придется метнуться 150км) а Hooded Menace и Grave Miasma посмотрю по 45 мин. каждую но это все, конечно, очень "грубо говоря"... все будет зависеть от вайба, сколько будет наркоты и т.д. и т.п.

Wednesday, 13 April 2011 at the Cul de Sac in Tilburg, Holland. It was the night before Roadburn and down in the Cul de Sac All the rockers had gathered, the place it was packed The patches were sewn on the denim vests with care In hopes that Vanderbuyst soon would be there. The good people of Tilburg all snug in their beds While visions of UFO and Saxon raged in the crowd’s head Motorcycle mamas and dudes in Thin Lizzy caps Everyone was chanting, louder and louder they clapped. Then up on the stage arose such a clatter. The floor did shake and the glasses did shatter The glory days of heavy metal were back in a flash Vanderbuyst plugged in and started to thrash. With mullets flying and fists pumping the air. The crowd went crazy and the amps just blared After so much raging everyone was spent And back under their hard rock Vanderbuyst went. Some fans sprang on their bikes while others just staggered. Half were ready for more and the rest were quite haggard Then they heard a Dio-like call somewhere out of sight, “Happy Roadburn to all, and to all a good night!” Check out Dutch hard rock sensation Vanderbuyst at Roadburn’s Hardrock Hideout on Wednesday, 13 April 2011 at the Cul de Sac in Tilburg. It was a warm welcome back to the arena and everyone in the Buzzov-en camp appreciated every minute of it. Now, on to the bad news. Unfortunately, Kirk is having some health issues that need to be resolved before he is able to tour again. Hence, it is with heavy hearts that we must announce the postponement of Buzzov-en's European tour in April and our appearance at Roadburn. We will have rescheduled dates booked and posted ASAP, and the fine folks at Roadburn have already been gracious enough to invite us to play next year's event. Once Kirk has completed his treatments over the next several weeks, all should be well and he is expected to make a quick recovery, so the Maryland Deathfest and Hellfest appearances are both still on. soon. David comments: “The four members of Shrinebuilder are like titans, too iconic to fuse into one, visually and aesthetically. All four respective bands have been mountains of inspiration for me at some point in life, which makes any potential image all the more difficult to conjure. The “shrine”, to me, is ultimately the self. My solution as an artist faced with the task to “illustrate” Shrinebuilder is to distill the piece down to components of one huge, cosmic, heraldic crest. “Black Mountain’s grounded earthy style of rock has always reminded me of soaring hawks and nature’s mysticism. The “psychedelic Inuit” has been an ongoing theme in poster art since the 1960s, and I took this opportunity to ink my version.”
Vodkasatan: We’re proud to unveil David V. D’Andrea‘s latest installment of his Roadburn series: the Wardruna poster. David comments: “It has been a pleasure to work closely with Kvitrafn on the Wardruna piece. He initially sent me a sketch, the basis being three women / nature spirits with specific Samstav Runes flowing from them. The symbol in the middle of the composition is Wardruna’s personal rune and the snake is an adaptation of a serpent spiral. It’s very inspiring to work with a band so deeply rooted in nature and tradition.” Wardruna, the dark ambient folk project led by former Gorgoroth drummer Kvitrafn, has been confirmed for a special one-off performance at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Thursday, April 14 at the Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. Kvitrafn and fellow musicians Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella explore the history of Norwegian mythology and paganism using traditional instruments such as goat and cow horns and bowed lyres. More unorthodox “instruments” such as trees, stones and fire are also incorporated into Wadruna‘s unique sound, which is further augmented by powerful vocal performances from several vocalists. Nearly six years in the making, Wardruna received rave reviews for their mesmerizing 2009 debut Gap Var Ginnunga, the first in the planned Runaljod trilogy that interprets the runes of the elder futhark. Gap Var Ginnunga will be released on vinyl on Burningworld Records prior to Wadruna‘s Roadburn performance. Kvitrafn comments: “I am very pleased and honoured that we are invited to contribute to Roadburn 2011. The festival with its very credible artistic focus and approach is something that I feel is very right for Wardruna to be a part of.” Although Wardruna has garnered a respectable and surprisingly diverse following, the group rarely performs live. Needless to say we are extremely excited that the band has been added to our line-up. Wardruna will definitely add a new dimension to the kaleidoscope of styles and sounds associated with Roadburn.
