Vodkasatan: ну, первая банда(Cough http://www.myspace.com/cough666 ), вроде как, подтвердилась,так что можно создавать трэд. времени еще дохуя, так что планируйте, товарищи!!! хотелось бы, чтоб побольше народу поехало! а пока что можно, на официальном форуме( http://foreverdoomed.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=37 ), делать заявки на банды, которые хотелось бы увидеть. органы регулярно появляются на форуме и, судя по опыту прошлыл лет, обращають внимание на то, кто, что просит. судя по тому, что в трэде(созданном Уолтером - организатором) про то, подходит ли Wovenhand ( http://www.myspace.com/wovenhand ) на Роадберн или нет, народ пишет, что подходит, Wovenhand на фесте тож следует ожидать.

Vincent Is a Parasit: Я примерно прикинул, с перелетами на дешевых авиа заказанных заблаговременно, билетами купленными в первые же дни торгов, минимумом еды и прочего, надеюсь уложиться в 20тыс, у тебя же только перелет до москвопитера и обратно будет куда дороже.

Vodkasatan: на я ваще х.з. за сколько можно из москвы куда добраться, так что это сами ищите(интернет вроде как для этого и придумали ) а так я сейчас посмотрел курс рубля. оно 39 руб. за евро, оказывается. так что этого, всеравно, не хватит, я думаю. считай: билет - 150 евро кэмп - 50 евро(по-моему); отэль, в котором мы жили стоил на троих, на 4 ночи - 420 евро(по-моему) лутше всего жить вот тут: http://www.mercure-tilburg.nl это буквально в двух минутах от 013. но там все зарезервировано на год вперед, на даты феста. цены всего остального я уже писал. я думаю, 50 евро в день точно будешь тратить.

Думаю бюджетный трансфер до балтийских аэропортов под тысячу найти без бэ удасться. Вот про лоу-косты европы я пока недоразобрался, но то что за 120(+сборы 30-40) евро туда обратно до амстердама есть, я уже пошерстил, как там вот хз, до эйндховена пока ничего не нашел -(( Итого 3000 р + 150 евро(6000р) + автобус из амстердама в Тильбург. При этом еть мысль взять здесь сигареты по 1.5 евро чтобы там менять на траву, пиво я почти не пью, а в еде не прихотлив. Самая пока опасная трата это сам билет, но ведь его потом можно если что сбагрить с наваром. :еврей: Меня ржать тянет с моей бюджетности.

Вот в августе тестовый заезд в Карелию будет)) Я знавал лично двух британских парней, которые из Лондона в Мельбурн на вело ехали. До Москвы они довольно бодро добрались таким гибридным способом.
Vodkasatan: блин, я тут недавно 50 км в спaртанском тэмпе на велосипеде проехал... думал, что помру потом но если ты спортсмен с кучей свободного времени, то, конечно, реально по паре сотен километров в ден деалть, наверно.

Vodkasatan: With the volcano a hazy memory and the post-Roadburn 2010 sleep deprivation dealt with, it’s time to start thinking about Roadburn 2011 (set for April 14 – 17 at the 013 venue and Midi Theatre, Tilburg, The Netherlands). Not just thinking, but doing! So what’s going on? Right now we are talking to our two chosen curators who will be hosting a special event on Friday, April 15th, 2011 at the festival’s 013 venue. Roadburn will be in charge of the shows scheduled in the Midi Theatre. We are overjoyed that both curators were interested in working with us. They are truly groundbreaking artists and we will reveal their identities very soon! We are also in the process of lining up the main headliners for the festival and so far things are looking really good! We will keep you updated, of course. We also want to point out that the tireless support from all of you, our beloved ‘burners, inspires us in our search for new bands to book. The wishlists on our official forum as well as the Roadburn Festival thread on last.fm have been a massive help! So many incredible and influential cult bands have been named, and we agree that all of the nominees would have made for one seriously amazing festival. Sadly, harsh reality has proved to be kind of a buzzkill. The underground scene, too, continues to suffer from the global financial crisis. It’s getting harder to arrange one-off shows since so many established bands need to tour two or maybe three times a year in support of their latest release to be able to keep doing what they are doing, while new bands have it even rougher. As a last resort some bands end up drastically raising their fee. It is also getting more difficult to fly bands in just for the festival due to the huge jump in airline ticket prices. Plus, some (US) cult bands can’t make it over here because promoters are unable to book them a full European tour. These are things we have to deal with on a daily basis right now, but we are not going to let them bring us down! In fact, we are positively brimming with ideas and we are going to rise to the various new challenges and make Roadburn 2011 just as epic as every edition so far. We’re up for it…how about you? We’ll be announcing the first bands later this month, so please be sure to check the site! The band, to be specific Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley, has agreed to curate our festival on Friday, April 15th, 2011 and host a special event. As curator, Sunn O))) will personally select the bands that will play during their special event as well as perform a headline show. Sunn O))) will be Roadburn’s fourth curator, following David Tibet in 2008, Neurosis in 2009 and Triptykon’s Tom Gabriel Warrior at this year’s festival. Right now, Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley are gearing up for two major Sunn O))) events in September: performing Altar with Boris at ATP New York and Brooklyn’s Masonic Temple, but you can expect to hear from them in the future with respect to their thoughts on the 2011 Roadburn festival and Sunn O)))’s performance. We are overjoyed to join forces with Sunn O))) for the upcoming Roadburn festival. Their metal-based drone experimentations have proved groundbreaking and hugely influential for an entire new generation of musicians practicing the art of avant-garde metal, drone, post rock and psychedelica. Sunn O))) is also widely acclaimed for their eclectic collaborations with everyone from musicians Attila Csihar, Masami Akita (Merzbow), Boris, Steven Stapleton, Justin Broadrick, Oren Ambarchi, Ulver, Joe Preston, John Wiese, and Julian Cope to filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and visual artist Banks Violette. Featuring band members Michael Gira (original SWANS), Norman Westberg (original SWANS), Christoph Hahn (mid-period SWANS and most Angels of Light ), Phil Puleo (final SWANS tour and most of Angels of Light), Chris Pravdica (Flux Information Sciences / Services/ Gunga Din) and Thor Harris (Angels of Light, currently Shearwater), SWANS will headline Roadburn on Saturday, 16 April 2011. Emerging from the New York underground in the early 80s, SWANS made their mark with a series of highly influential dark, abrasive, brutal and growling noise albums that served as an outlet for their unsettling ruminations on alienation, depression and the depravity of man. After 15 years of touring and constant productivity SWANS disbanded in 1997. The band’s recent revival finds Michael Gira seamlessly shifting from Angels Of Light mode to the more heavier and noisier origins of SWANS, as showcased on the band’s forthcoming album, My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky, which basically starts where Soundtracks For The Blind/Swans Are Dead left off. According to Stereogum.com: “The purists may want to crucify me, but Swans’ first studio album since Soundtracks is also one of SWANS’ best, most relentlessly dark and beautiful albums to date. WE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO GREAT EXTEND to get both bands involved, but due to various reasons we couldn't get them to confirm. Vodkasatan: Count Raven Roadburn is very pleased to report that Sweden’s doom-legends Count Raven have been confirmed for a one-off show at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Thursday, April 14th. Sweden’s Count Raven is counted among the archetypal doom bands, and probably the most representative band of Germany’s legendary (and sadly defunkt) Hellhound label. Upon first listen, Count Raven comes close to cloning Black Sabbath (especially with the vocals being very Ozzy-like), but one can actually feel founder / guitarist / vocalist Dan “Fodde” Fondelius’ emotional engagement, and his poignant, all-too- real lyrics definitely help to dispel any perceived shortcomings in the vocal department. After splitting up in 1999, and founding a new band by the name of Doomsday Government, Dan Fondelius decided to ressurect Count Raven in 2003 with original collaborators Tommy Eriksson and Christer “Renfield” Petterson, only to call it quits again in 2006. Since then, Fondelius hired two new members, Fredrik Jansson (bass) and Jens Bock (drums) to continue the Count Raven moniker, and now the band is back with a beautiful, melancholy, majestic doom album called Mammons War. This effort represents their first album after 13 years. According to HellrideMusic.com, “Mammons War feels like we’ve caught Fodde releasing years of creativity just yearning to be made kinetic. The relative lack of escapist fare shows a man struggling with the issues of the not-to-distant future, if not the here-and-now. There is definitely that “progression of an artist” type of vibe here. Perhaps it took him 13 years to dig himself out of a creative rut. With their style ranging from psychedelic rock to free jazz, with literally dozens of other genres between, they has been one of the most diverse musical groups of our time, and if there was ever a band designed to play multiple sets at a festival, it would be Circle. Not only do they have literally hundreds of songs to choose from, but they are also extremely creative and capable of musically changing styles and sounds at the drop of a studded leather hat. Fear not, however – we are continuing to work on additional acts from all fields, whether post-rock, dark psychedelica, stonerrock,doom, heavy psych or avant-metal, and we will always mix classic sounds with the cutting edge. If we’re adding a band to the line-up, it’s because either we feel they need to be heard, or that the recent performances or recordings by these bands deserve them a slot on the bill. There are no politics here, just the music that keeps us inspired and which moves us. In the end, we always strive to bring you a well-balanced festival, and we’re in talks with dozens of bands, so the acts announced so far are only the tip of the iceberg. Rest assured that we have a lot of interesting tricks up our sleeve, all of which will come to light by the time that pre-sales begin later this year. Vodkasatan: Wardruna Roadburn Festival is very proud to announce that Wardruna, the dark ambient folk project led by former Gorgoroth drummer Kvitrafn, has been confirmed for a special one-off performance at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Thursday, April 14 at the Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. Kvitrafn and fellow musicians Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella explore the history of Norwegian mythology and paganism using traditional instruments such as goat and cow horns and bowed lyres. More unorthodox “instruments” such as trees, stones and fire are also incorporated into Wadruna‘s unique sound, which is further augmented by powerful vocal performances from several vocalists. Nearly six years in the making, Wardruna received rave reviews for their mesmerizing 2009 debut Gap Var Ginnunga, the first in the planned Runaljod trilogy that interprets the runes of the elder futhark. Gap Var Ginnunga will be released on vinyl on Burningworld Records prior to Wadruna‘s Roadburn performance. Kvitrafn comments: “I am very pleased and honoured that we are invited to contribute to Roadburn 2011. The festival with its very credible artistic focus and approach is something that I feel is very right for Wardruna to be a part of.” Although Wardruna has garnered a respectable and surprisingly diverse following, the group rarely performs live. Vodkasatan: Candlemass Roadburn is thrilled to report that Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2011. Originally scheduled to celebrate 25 years of doom at this year’s Roadburn in April, Candlemass ended up stuck in Stockholm due to logistic complications arising from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Candlemass is now scheduled to play on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. Starting at 15.45, Candlemass will perform a very special 2-hour set, which will include “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” in its entirety; featuring original vocalist Johan Längquist. Leif Edling comments: “Candlemass is on for Roadburn 2011! I’m very happy! Not only for the chance to redeem ourselves, it is still our 25th anniversary for god’s sake! A black piece of vinyl called EPICUS DOOMICUS METALLICUS came out almost exactly 25 years ago, and it will be a bonechilling event for us all… to play the whole shit live at Roadburn! Can’t wait! The lights, the sound…the projector show… everything will be absolute KILLER!! Pentagram and Candlemass at Roadburn next year. Formed in 2000 as a project to compose new music for existing silent movies, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, led by Jason Köhnen (Bong-Ra) and Gideon Kiers, proves that there is still something fresh to be created at the nexus of post-rock, jazz and drone, as showcased on stunning albums like the Mutations EP and Here Be Dragons. Darker than future jazz, yet lighter than doom jazz, the band's beautiful cinematic soundscapes evoke images of abandoned villages in a post-war eastern european silent film, eerie yet melancholy. Impressive, profound and organic, the band's deeply emotional and original trips are a perfect rendition of the ensemble’s live shows. Combining traditional instrumentations (comprising cello, trombone, violin, beats, guitar, bass and vocals sometimes) with existing and / or self-developed software, continuously blending and mutating, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble creates an organic and electronic performance, supported by visuals which add to and interact with the frequencies of said instruments. In other news, we're very pleased to report that Zoroaster will be playing the Thursday Roadburn date, Thursday, April 14th, 2011. Atlanta trio Zoroaster have never been content with sticking to one sound or formula and albums like Dog Magic and Voice of Saturn showcase a band operating within the realms of doom metal, sludge and psychedelic rock but showing a serious tendency to meander. Both records show hints of a band that can be both monolithic and atmospheric but also swing like vintage Sabbath at the very same time. When all three factors converge, Zoroaster is capable of delivering the coolest, heavy-duty, stoner odysseys this side of OM, Sleep and Electric Wizard. However, Zoroaster's vision comes to full fruition on their latest album, Matador, still very much in the doom-mold, but now with more and shorter songs. Sometimes a band can linger in the shadows of their peers and be overlooked, and it’s easy to forget that some bands need a little more time to develop than others. In case of Zoroaster, their considerable growth over the years has placed them in the pantheon of psychedelic doom, up on Mount Collosus, alongside their brethren.

Vodkasatan: Naam Roadburn Festival is very pleased to report that Naam, along with label mates The Atomic Bitchwax and Quest For Fire will be playing the Thursday Roadburn date, Thursday, April 14th, 2011. Hallucinogenic proto-doom explorers Naam play a grim electric blues that evokes comparisons to a spacy Black Sabbath. However, the band isn’t afraid to explore different territories, and their self-titled debut full-length (out on TeePee Records) unlocks a mind altering reality, by way of doom, sludge and unpredictable psychedelic funk. Naam even briefly visits black metal blast beats for the album closer ‘Black Ice’. The band has a dark and vibrating space oddity about them to befuddle ground control, and together with labelmates Quest for Fire, are definitely one of the best new bands to appear on the heavy psych rock scene.
Vodkasatan: The Atomic Bitchwax The Atomic Bitchwax‘s heavenly songwriting seems fueled by the grace of God (or at least a case of beer and a few spliffs). Since the mid 90′s, the band (now consisting of Chris Koznik, Bob Pantella and Finn Ryan) have continued onward and upward in their journey to produce top notch high-octane riff rock, outstanding album after outstanding album. The band’s latest record, TAB 4 (TeePee Records), is laced with great guitar harmonies and catchy vocals, all underpinned by the Bitchwax‘s ability to pen excellent and catchy tunes. They augment their hook-laden songwriting by throwing down ridiculous riffage on stage, earning them a reputation for delivering rip-roaring live shows.
Vodkasatan: Quest For Fire Toronto’s Quest For Fire are on TeePee Records (instant cred) and play a dirty, full-blown fuzzed-out mix of classic rock and amphetamine-fueled garage-acid-psychedelica, conjuring up images of Kenneth Anger’s Scorpio Rising as well as molten lava. Quest for Fire are definitely one of the best new bands to appear on the heavy psych rock scene, as showcased on much acclaimed albums like their self-titled full-length and Lights from Paradise. “Lights from Paradise is eight tracks of sprawling psychedelia from the Canadian four-piece, ranging from the ritualistic stillness of opener “The Greatest Hits by God,” which seems to capitalize on what Om might sound like with two guitars, to the semi-raucousness of “Set Out Alone” or the Dead Meadow freakout of In the Place of a Storm” – JJ Koczan, The Obelisk.

Not only will founding members Justin Broadrick and Benny Green play Streetcleaner in full and in track order, they will be playing the Tiny Tears EP, which was conceived as part of the overall Street Cleaner vision, in full as well. Roadburn Festival regards Godflesh as one of the biggest influences on the burgeoning doom, sludge and drone scenes, alongside their Birmingham forebears Black Sabbath and New York’s unyielding instigators of aural punishment, Swans. The artistic resonance of Godflesh‘ Streetcleaner can be heard and felt throughout the entire festival and in many of the bands invited to perform. Its ability to create an all-encompassing yet devastatingly claustrophobic vision from minimalist means, it treated guitar textures that would later be siphoned off into Justin and Benny’s respective drone projects, Final and Vitriol, and its willingness to meet the abyss head-on are all elements whose fumes have pervaded Roadburn over many years. It is a massive understatement to say that we’re beyond thrilled about having Godflesh headlining the Thursday Roadburn date with such a highly anticipated performance. In the wake of the ticket mayhem prior to Roadburn 2009, we explored several possibilities for avoiding secondary ticketing. Unfortunately, we cannot prevent it from happening. We also noticed that all ticket outlets in the Netherlands cannot prevent scalpers from reselling tickets. A personal registration system for selling tickets was ultimately rejected. To do so would have required raising the ticket price even more, which simply was not an option. Secondly, as much as we recognize the negative impact of scalping and strongly oppose the practice, it is not against the law to resell tickets in the Netherlands. The Dutch government has been dragging its heels on the ticket scalping issue for years. Vodkasatan: Roadburn 2011 What’s Going On? Part 3: The Afterburner We have been busy setting the lineup of the festival, and as you all have seen, there have been some exciting announcements lately. We’re extremely honored to have Wardruna, very excited about Candlemass celebrating 25 years of doom with us, and thrilled about Godflesh performing their landmark debut-album, Streetcleaner, in its entirety, including the Tiny Tears EP. It will be the first time ever that Justin Broadrick and Benny Green will perform the album in full and in track order. We’re fully aware that all of you are craving more band confirmations right now, especially with the announcement of our pre-sales, starting on Saturday, November 27th in mind. Please bear with us, as we’re currently finalizing the last details with lots of bands, and hope to release more confirmations in very short order. Sunn O)))‘s curated event at Roadburn 2011 is shaping up nicely as well. Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley are currently talking to their personally preferred artists and bands, and expect an update soon, too! You might have noticed that we haven’t announced any bands for the additional Afterburner event yet. What’s going on? We have invited Black Mountain to headline this year’s Afterburner, and based upon our gut feeling, we think it might happen. This means that we’ll be using Roadburn‘s main stage for the Afterburner as well, as well as the Green Room and Bat Cave. We’re currently looking into all the logistics, and completing the extended lineup. We just need an extra week or two to get it all done properly. There have been rumors about Blood Farmers and Black Pyramid, and we are delighted to say that both of them are indeed playing the Afterburner. Consider this a preview, and there will be an official announcement soon. It’s also true that we’re talking to Coffins, but it’s not finalized yet. We’re are also looking into ticketing for the Afterburner, and there’s a good chance that we’ll be offering a 4-day pass for those who want to experience to entire festival, as well as offering an additional Afterburner ticket as always.

Yakuza is now scheduled to play on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. Staying deeply rooted in a genre all its own, Yakuza’s existence lies on a metal base with progressive flair, while somehow also incorporating elements of jazz, world beat, and post-rock ambience. Picture (if you can) a mixture of King Crimson, all periods of John Coltrane’s career, Tortoise, and Napalm Death. The end result is captivating, a sound that Rolling Stone, Revolver, Alternative Press, the Chicago Sun Times, the Chicago Tribune, All That Jazz and countless others all agree is refreshingly original, technically proficient, all the while still staying very metal. Bruce Lamont comments: "We (Yakuza) are happy to report that after last years unfortunate cancellation we are back on for the 2011 Roadburn festival. I have witnessed the festival with my own eyes when performing with Minsk in 2009 and i can safely say that no festival in the world is quite as special as Roadburn. Vodkasatan: Lonely Kamel и Dragontears We’re very pleased to announce that Lonely Kamel, along with Dragontears have been confirmed for the 2011 Roadburn Festival, set for Saturday, April 16. Fans of late ’60s and early 70s-era heavy blues rock rejoice, Norway’s Lonely Kamel pack so much charisma it seems they could have once shared the stage with the likes of Cactus, Blue Cheer or even Pentagram. The band is capable of writing songs in the same style of the aforementioned greats — and maybe even draining their liquor stash as well! They craft infectious stoner rock, underpinned by a thick groove and some cool psychedelia, too. For evidence, listen to both their s/t debut full-length or their sophomore album, Blues for the Dead, and you’d swear that they were actually formed 40 year odd years ago, only to find out that they were simply born too late… Great band! Dragontears, revolving around Lorenzo Woodrose and members of Baby Woodrose and On Trial rarely perform live, and besides a few shows in their homeland, the band’s only performance outside of Denmark took place at Roadburn 2009. Dragontears has a penchant for mining the psychedelic sounds of the late ’60s (think the 13th Floor Elevators meets Syd Barrett or The Silver Apples meets MC5), as showcased on much acclaimed albums like 2000 Micrograms From Home and Tambourine Freak Machine. Needless to say that we’re really excited about Dragontears returning to Roadburn, throwing the festival attendees into a vortex of fuzz fueled riffs, and bubbly wah-wah guitars, all manipulated to take us into a hypnotic journey through the center of the mind. Or as the band puts it on their latest album — Turn On, Tune In, Fuck Off!!

San Francisco’s Carlton Melton is centered around former Zen Guerrilla’s Andy Duvall (Guitar/Drums) and Rich Millman (Guitar/Synths). They recorded their psychedelic hypno-drone rock in a genuine geodesic dome, and have created an insane psychedelic squall utilizing alien guitar swells, freaked out tribal rhythms and strange loping pulsations. The heavy vibrations of Can and Pink Floyd suffuse Carlton Melton‘s work, and they use a bed of classic psychedelic rock as means for the guitars and organ to soar righteously through the stratosphere, before decending into trance-inducing drones which burrow deep into the earth. Carlton Melton appeals equally to old school bong-bubblers and contemporary cosmic heads. If you prefer old SST label cassette tapes or an early Spaceman 3 or Loop cassette you recently found wedged in the back seat of your car, you need to check out Carlton Melton‘s full length, Pass it On. Richmond’s Cough delivers a dirge-laden take on excessively drugged out doom (think Electric Wizard as the central point of reference). Both their albums, Sigillum Luciferi and Relapse Records debut, Ritual Abuse, feature heavy, dark, psychedelic doom that sounds like a thousand pharmaceutical-whacked zombies just escaped from Manchester morgue wailing away at an all night party after a pharmacy-raiding crime spree. At other times, Cough‘s monolthic sound is less warped and hallucinogenic, but strongly suffocationg and claustrophobic, and becomes so densely hateful it’s nearly black metal in its ambience.
Vodkasatan: Wolf People Wolf People will be playing the Saturday Roadburn date, Saturday, April 16th, 2011. Since 2006 the name Wolf People has been uttered with hushed reverence amongst psych heads, record collectors and fervent music enthusiasts in the UK. Their mix of psych rock riffs, blues chops and acid folk eventually bringing them to the attention of legendary US label JAGJAGUWAR (home to Black Mountain, Dinosaur Jr, Oneida etc). The debut LP Steeple released earlier this year is fiercely proud of it’s heritage both musical and cultural, and doesn’t shy away from it’s influences, but that’s not to say it’s not it’s own beast: majestic, heavy and real.
Vodkasatan: White Hills White Hills will return to Roadburn after their triumphant 2009 appearance. White Hills are scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at the 013 venue. Hailing from New York, White Hills are nothing if not the aural simulation of an LSD freak-out. A jammed up collision of fuzzed-out wah guitars, gonzoid bass riffs and weird electronic noises arranged in a stunning replication of the effects of Owsley’s psychotropic gift to brains everywhere. Roadburn, please be aware that the brown acid isn’t too good, we recommend taking White Hills instead.

Vodkasatan: The 2011 Roadburn Festival features an extremely special performance by sludge / stoner legends Buzzov*en, set for Thursday, April 14th at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland –Weedeater‘s Roadburn appearance is set for Saturday, April 16th. Formed in 1989 when heavy riffs primarily meant grunge, Buzzov*en brought a particularly virulent malice and filth to their music that often manifested itself in extreme violence at their live shows. Not surprisingly, given their level of intensity and their heavy touring schedule, their lineup was quite volatile and changed frequently. Now remaining original member Kirk Fisher (guitar/vox) has reformed the band’s “…At A Loss” lineup with Dixie Dave (Weedeater) on bass, Sleepy Floyd (Sourvein) on guitar and Ramzi (Sourvein) on drums. In the 12 years Buzzov*en was together, they released 3 LP’s (“To A Frown”, “Sore”, “…At A Loss”) and 5 EP’s along with their legendary “Buttrash” demo tape and the bootlegged but not officially released “Revelation: Sick Again” which was supposed to come out on Hydra Head Records. The influence of the band far exceeds their recorded output though, as they and Eyehategod are the forefathers of sludge / stonerand their frequent tours spread the sludge gospel far and wide, while spawning countless offspring wherever they roamed. We feel extremely lucky to be able to bring Buzzov*en to the Roadburn Festival to give everyone a chance to experience their vitriolic riffs and rage filled performance. We’re also very excited to report that Weedeater will play the Saturday Roadburn date, Saturday, April 16th, 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. Giving truth to the adage that the south will get high again, Weedeater bring their rip-snortin’ Sabbath influenced sludge-doom straight to your noggin like a huge bong hit with a whiskey chaser. Plying their southern pride saturated, riffgasms for the last 13 years, the band is a force to be reckoned with, whether simply proselytizing about weed, or more frequently, making social commentary on the brutishness of life. Shorn of his big toe, but not his will to rock, frontman / bassist Dixie Dave will lead the power trio on an assault of Roadburn’s stage that is sure to be one of the can’t miss performances of the festival. Their new release “Jason…The Dragon” is scheduled to be released by Southern Lord late in 2010.

Master Musicians of Bukkake excels at acoustic ethnic drones, outerwordly chants, and ventures into uncharted Hawkwind, Gong and Magma waters by pairing spacey guitar leanings, Tibetan bells, chimes and gamelan percussion with electronic FX. Totem One could easily be the soundtrack to a fucked-up underground movie as weird and compelling as Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Holy Mountain or El Topo. Crazy! Since 1999, San Francisco’s progressive black metal act Ludicra has been one of the best live metal bands on the planet. The group released its massively acclaimed fourth album The Tenant on Profound Lore in 2010 and is now set to make its European debut at long last. Conceptually, Ludicra draws inspiration from the squalor of urban living in the Bay Area and this dark, yet life-affirming agenda finds an unparalleled voice in singer Laurie Sue Shanaman. Her vocals issue from a body wracked with emotion and terrifying honesty. Guitarists John Cobbett (Hammers of Misfortune, ex-Slough Feg, ex-Amber Asylum) and Christy Cather provide dueling riffs and leads. Bassist Ross Sewage is known for his work in Impaled, Ghoul, and a stint in Wolves in the Throne Room. And the drum throne is filled by none other than Aesop Dekker of Agalloch, and Worm Ouroboros. Ludicra’s first album Hollow Psalms was originally released on the cult hardcore label Life Is Abuse in 2002 and was finally set to a gorgeous hand-made vinyl edition in 2010. Subsequent albums were handled by Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label also known for its work with Amebix and Neurosis. Now with Profound Lore Records and Nanotear Booking, Ludicra is outgrowing its cult status and taking its rightful place in the metal pantheon. Few bands can touch the powerful live presence that this band of brothers and sisters wields. “Guitars sound like guitars, not digital chunks, twisting around each other in mournful wails, triumphant resolutions, and dreamy chords. Ludicra balance the beautiful and the ugly like few can” – Alee Karim, Invisible Oranges. From his folky debut through the harder-rocking follow-up to his current album, The Voidist, Imaad Wasif (who has worked with the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Folk Implosion) proves himself to be a singer extraordinaire. Elements of mysticism pervade his music, as does a penchant for traditional rock riffs and the folksy plucking of bands like Led Zeppelin. Wasif’s guitar work — whether it be chugging riffs, fuzz-wah leads, or gently shimmering notes, comes straight out of the psych-rock handbook as well (think Nebula as a point of reference). However, it’s Wasif‘s smooth voice and his ability as a songwriter that sets him apart from his peers, whether he’s playing no frills rock and roll, or ghostly folk tunes.

Originally scheduled to perform at this years Roadburn festival in April 2010, Shrinebuilder ended up stuck in New York due to logistic complications arising from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Shrinebuilder is now scheduled to play on Saturday, April 16 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland.

We’re also pleased to announce that Black Mountain, along with Dead Meadow, Blood Farmers, Black Pyramid, Dragontears (playing a second show at Roadburn 2011) and Gomer Pyle been confirmed the 2011 Afterburner. It’s also true that we’re talking to Sourvein and Coffins, but nothing has been finalized yet. We just need an extra week or two to work out all the details but we’re optimistic about bringing these bands to the Afterburner. As you all have noticed, the overall vibe of the 2011 Afterburner veers towards the old-school Roadburn festivals, as we have put emphasis on classic psychedelic rock, doom and stoner rock like we used to do in the past. It wasn’t deliberately put together this way, it just happened organically, but we think it’s a perfect opportunity for those who want an introduction to the essence of Roadburn in just one day, rather than attending for the whole weekend. Or, for those who are Roadburn veterans and wish to attend both Roadburn and the Afterburner, it presents a complete sampling of what our festival has come to represent. Experience has shown us that an overwhelming majority of the people want to enjoy the entire Roadburn Festival experience, including the Afterburner, so we will be offering 4 day-passes, as well as additional (separate) Afterburner tickets as always. Vodkasatan: Roadburn is very excited to report that American doom legends Blood Farmers and psychedelic doomsters Black Pyramid have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival Afterburner, set for Sunday, April 17th, 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. With just one offical record, the Blood Farmers established themselves as America’s preeminent horror doom act. Released way back in 1995 on the legendary doom label Hellhound, their eponymous record became an underground legend and kept their name alive for years until they reformed a few years ago. Their brand of muscular-vocalized classic heavy doom is equal parts New York swagger, supercharged Sabbath riffage, dark and smoky atmosphere combined with a penchant for horror themes (the band is named after a 1972 horror movie Invasion of the Blood Farmers). This is a combination that proved irresistible to doom-heads everywhere. Their record became a touchstone of U.S. doom legend right up there with the Obsessed and St.Vitus, at least among the hardcore followers of the genre. In 2010, they will be gracing the Roadburn stage in one of the most long awaited shows in memory. Black Pyramid play psychedelic doom metal, with the thick, down-tuned tones of their amplifier worshipping stoner metal contemporaries, but the epic arrangements and classic songwriting of vintage doom acts. The band juxtaposes crushing, triumphant riffs that ring like battle cries with keen instincts for melody and dynamics that showcase their more introspective nature.

Over the course of their nearly 30 year career, Voivod have never stopped venturing boldly into new sonic realms, brilliantly incorporating everything from industrial metal to alt-punk pop and of course Pink Floydian psychedelia into their unique sound… But they should need no introduction at all to most metalheads, really – if you’re into metal, chances are you’re a Voivod fan, and mourned when founding guitarist Piggy tragically succumbed to cancer in 2005. In a perfect world, Piggy would still be with us, and also in a perfect world, Voivod would be a household name, rather than just mega cult heroes. It’s saying something though, that when Jason Newsted left Metallica, the band he decided to join was Voivod! Roadburn is pleased to have the latest edition of Voivod but rather than Jason Newsted they’ll have original bassist Blacky the band, alongside original vocalist Denis “Snake” Bélanger, and touring guitarist Daniel Mongrain (Martyr, Gorguts, Cryptopsy) to perform exclusively material from when Blacky was in the band, from their 1984 debut War & Pain through to 1988′s Dimension Hatröss, which would also encompass such classic albums as Killing Technology (1987) and possibly their ultimate statement, Nothingface (1989).

LA’s Black Math Horseman live somewhere between the psychedelic world of 70′s stoner and contemporary shoegazers which they adorn with touches of goth and post rock to create their mind altering sound. “The brand of psychedelic post-desert rock Los Angeles foursome Black Math Horseman play has its roots deeply entrenched in the heady vision of what “progressive” has come to mean in this young century; where the term refers more to the general and intellectual consideration a band gives their music, rather than the technical difficulty in playing it. “How much do they think about what they’re doing?” in other words. “In the case of Black Math Horseman, as best as can be judged on hearing their Tee Pee Records debut, Wyllt, the answer is plenty. The record — aided in its task by a remarkable Scott Reeder (Kyuss, The Obsessed, Goatsnake, etc.) production job — hoists itself upon the mind of the listener and rests easy in the head, hypnotic, until the crests of “Tyrant” flood over whatever landscape it is you want to picture while you’re listening. Despite traversing a wide musical territory (much of it not easily describable as metal) over the course of 19 years and 8 full length albums, Today is the Day stands as one of the most truly evil, misanthropic and disturbing bands of our time. Today is the Day make “cerebral” metal bands like Tool and Mastodon seem like knuckle-dragging mouth breathers with shear scope of their musical vocabulary and their relentless exploration of the weirdest, bleakest, darkest corners of the metal universe. The Today is the Day catalog includes at least three masterpieces, Temple of the Morning Star, Today is the Day, and Willpower which run a dizzying gamut of musical styles from Slint-ish indie-rock to experimental soundscapes to kraut-metal and do it all in a way that seems completely logical and consistent even if it is infused with evil purpose and darkest intent. One of the most consistently challenging and interesting bands of our time and someone that we are truly overjoyed to welcome to the Roadburn lineup. “By nature, the new TITD lineup is a more rocking / jamming type of a vibe than some of the older death metal line-ups. As curator, Sunn O))) (Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley) are personally selecting the bands that will play during their special event, as well as performing a headlining show. Sunn O))) is Roadburn’s fourth curator, following David Tibet in 2008, Neurosis in 2009 and Triptykon’s Tom Gabriel Warrior at this year’s festival in April. Sunn O))) comments: “Sunn O))) is honored to present the first part of our guests for the curated day at Roadburn, April 15th 2011. They represent a broad range of bands we are fans of, and in many cases some of our closest friends and collaborators. Vodkasatan: Sourvein и Coffins на афтербернере Roadburn is very excited to report that Sourvein, along with Coffins, have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival Afterburner, set for Sunday, April 17th, 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. Featuring former members of 13 and Buzzov’en in their ranks, Sourvein offers low-tuned, balls out, southern sludge metal. Word on the streets is that they have been slaying audiences across the US for the last couple of years with their heavy-as-fuck assault. Influenced by old school 80s and 90s doom and thrash, Japan’s Coffins death metal onslaught also shows some heavy and oppressive sludge metal tendencies keeping them somewhere near the doom category, despite the band’s occasional upbeat parts or outbursts of speed. Since 1996, Coffins has put out crushing release after release culminating into 2008′s Buried Death, a punishing masterpiece of death doom (think Come my Fanatics-era Electric Wizard playing death metal, and you get Coffins).

Vodkasatan: Samsara Blues Experiment на афтербернере Roadburn is very pleased to announce that Samsara Blues Experiment will be part of the 2011 Afterburner lineup. Originally scheduled to play this years Roadburn Festival in April, guitarist Christian Peters was rushed to the hospital only seconds before the band got on stage. The remaining band members ended up jamming with David Eering from The Machine. Samsara Blues Expriment is now sheduled to play on Sunday, April 17th, along with Afterburner-headliner Black Mountain, Dead Meadow, Sourvein, Blood Farmers, Black Pyramid, Gomer Pyle, Dragontears and Coffins. Utilizing both heavy riffage and psychedelic blues-jamming, Samsara Blues Experiment offer 21th Century Krautrock that will appeal to doom and stoner fans alike. The band caused quite a stir with their debut full-length Long Distance Trip, and we’re very happy that these spaced out cosmonauts will be part of Roadburn Festival 2011.
