The band was supposed to play the 2010 Roadburn Festival only to get stranded at an airport after volcanic ash clouds grounded planes around the world. The Gates of Slumber is now scheduled to play on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland The Gates of Slumber harkens back to the old school doom laden sounds of the grandfathers of heavy metal. The St. Vitus / Cirith Ungol influenced powerhouse from Indianapolis has more to offer than rehashed riffs though; their brooding yet gargantuan metal can only be described as a work of stunning, beautiful and sinister dirge-like heaviness. Spawned in the woodland of Dorset, England, Ramesses (Adam Richardson / Mark Greening / Tim Bagshaw) have belched out a consistently cacophonous mutant hybrid of dark horror-metal that oozes as much subtle catchiness as ugly psychedelic brutality. High on atmosphere, titanic drumming and dexterous guitarwork, the band’s evil down-tuned maelstrom of bludgeoning power crushes topics like the occult, death, destruction, and seventies horror, too. Ramesses evokes visualisations of blood sucking vampires, foul ancient crypts buried under scorched sands, and also Hell, as depicted on the artwork (by Jake and Dinos Chapman) for their much acclaimed latest album, Take The Curse. Purveyors of sludge / doom since 1993, Acid King is a great tonic for sore throat, nausea, hives, itchy rashes, vapors, hysteria, and general fatigue syndrome. Apply Acid King liberally for up to 1 hour at a time, then rest in a dark place until symptoms disappear. Acid King can be used in combination with most other drugs without fear or side effects. When taken with Cannabis and Alcohol, the effects of Acid King may be enhanced. Acid King should only be used responsibly under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional. Vodkasatan: Wardruna Roadburn Festival is very proud to announce that Wardruna, the dark ambient folk project led by former Gorgoroth drummer Kvitrafn, has been confirmed for a special one-off performance at Roadburn Festival 2011, set for Thursday, April 14 at the Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. Kvitrafn and fellow musicians Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella explore the history of Norwegian mythology and paganism using traditional instruments such as goat and cow horns and bowed lyres. More unorthodox “instruments” such as trees, stones and fire are also incorporated into Wadruna‘s unique sound, which is further augmented by powerful vocal performances from several vocalists. Nearly six years in the making, Wardruna received rave reviews for their mesmerizing 2009 debut Gap Var Ginnunga, the first in the planned Runaljod trilogy that interprets the runes of the elder futhark. Gap Var Ginnunga will be released on vinyl on Burningworld Records prior to Wadruna‘s Roadburn performance. Kvitrafn comments: “I am very pleased and honoured that we are invited to contribute to Roadburn 2011. The festival with its very credible artistic focus and approach is something that I feel is very right for Wardruna to be a part of.” Although Wardruna has garnered a respectable and surprisingly diverse following, the group rarely performs live. Vodkasatan: Candlemass Roadburn is thrilled to report that Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass have been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2011. Originally scheduled to celebrate 25 years of doom at this year’s Roadburn in April, Candlemass ended up stuck in Stockholm due to logistic complications arising from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Candlemass is now scheduled to play on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland. Starting at 15.45, Candlemass will perform a very special 2-hour set, which will include “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” in its entirety; featuring original vocalist Johan Längquist. Leif Edling comments: “Candlemass is on for Roadburn 2011! I’m very happy! Not only for the chance to redeem ourselves, it is still our 25th anniversary for god’s sake! A black piece of vinyl called EPICUS DOOMICUS METALLICUS came out almost exactly 25 years ago, and it will be a bonechilling event for us all… to play the whole shit live at Roadburn! Can’t wait! The lights, the sound…the projector show… everything will be absolute KILLER!! Pentagram and Candlemass at Roadburn next year. Jeez… what a show!!!” Roadburn considers Candlemass one of the most important doom bands ever. They are on a very short list of doom greatness that includes Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Trouble and perhaps no one else. Formed in 2000 as a project to compose new music for existing silent movies, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, led by Jason Köhnen (Bong-Ra) and Gideon Kiers, proves that there is still something fresh to be created at the nexus of post-rock, jazz and drone, as showcased on stunning albums like the Mutations EP and Here Be Dragons. Darker than future jazz, yet lighter than doom jazz, the band's beautiful cinematic soundscapes evoke images of abandoned villages in a post-war eastern european silent film, eerie yet melancholy. Impressive, profound and organic, the band's deeply emotional and original trips are a perfect rendition of the ensemble’s live shows. Combining traditional instrumentations (comprising cello, trombone, violin, beats, guitar, bass and vocals sometimes) with existing and / or self-developed software, continuously blending and mutating, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble creates an organic and electronic performance, supported by visuals which add to and interact with the frequencies of said instruments. In other news, we're very pleased to report that Zoroaster will be playing the Thursday Roadburn date, Thursday, April 14th, 2011. Atlanta trio Zoroaster have never been content with sticking to one sound or formula and albums like Dog Magic and Voice of Saturn showcase a band operating within the realms of doom metal, sludge and psychedelic rock but showing a serious tendency to meander. Both records show hints of a band that can be both monolithic and atmospheric but also swing like vintage Sabbath at the very same time. When all three factors converge, Zoroaster is capable of delivering the coolest, heavy-duty, stoner odysseys this side of OM, Sleep and Electric Wizard. However, Zoroaster's vision comes to full fruition on their latest album, Matador, still very much in the doom-mold, but now with more and shorter songs. Sometimes a band can linger in the shadows of their peers and be overlooked, and it’s easy to forget that some bands need a little more time to develop than others. In case of Zoroaster, their considerable growth over the years has placed them in the pantheon of psychedelic doom, up on Mount Collosus, alongside their brethren.

Vodkasatan: да никто там не делит на метал/немитал. не страдает там никто детсадовскими комплексами, че еще сказать?. зовут тех, кого считают за достойную банду. еще не была озвучена ни одна банда, которую бы позвали О'Малли и Андерсон. а от них я думаю много чего можно ждать; в том числе и "неметал"

Vodkasatan: Naam Roadburn Festival is very pleased to report that Naam, along with label mates The Atomic Bitchwax and Quest For Fire will be playing the Thursday Roadburn date, Thursday, April 14th, 2011. Hallucinogenic proto-doom explorers Naam play a grim electric blues that evokes comparisons to a spacy Black Sabbath. However, the band isn’t afraid to explore different territories, and their self-titled debut full-length (out on TeePee Records) unlocks a mind altering reality, by way of doom, sludge and unpredictable psychedelic funk. Naam even briefly visits black metal blast beats for the album closer ‘Black Ice’. The band has a dark and vibrating space oddity about them to befuddle ground control, and together with labelmates Quest for Fire, are definitely one of the best new bands to appear on the heavy psych rock scene.
