PhillO))): а я вот как то задал вопрос на бёрновом форуме : And what do you guys seriously thinking about any Russian/Ukrainian Stoner bands playing at Roadburn ? и был ответ : The Grand Astoria (RUS) and Stoned Jesus (UKR) are promising acts. а так местных героев хватает из Тилбурга и Эйндховена. но надо стучаться, когда нить откроют )

We are very much looking forward to seeing David Eugene Edwards prove that making really heavy music does not necessarily mean having the loudest guitars or the most amps. n Wovenhand (and his previous band 16 Horsepower) Edwards uses a funereal southern gothic mood, incredibly deep lyrical content and a distinctive vocal delivery to create some of the heaviest records of the millennium. The rock / folk / world / alt-country music that Woven Hand produce is shot through with southern torment and swathed in christian portent: a perfect soundtrack to a Flannery O’Connor story. They will be touring behind their latest release, “The Threshingfloor”, which delivers yet another epic sonic gloomscape laden with biblical references and philosophical lyrics. By turns intensely powerful and sublimely delicate, Wovenhand demand the listener’s reverence and contemplation, something that syncs up perfectly with the already reverential Roadburn crowds. Vodkasatan: Year of No Light отыграют два сэта! Year of No Light to play two shows at Roadburn Festival 2011: Ausserwelt album and live soundtrack to CT Dreyer’s horror masterpiece Vampyr. Hailing from Bordeaux, France, Year of No Light have proven adept at shifting seamlessly between genres, balancing postrock, sludge, somber psychedelics and crushingly dark and depressing atmospheric shoegaze, never allowing the incredible scope of their soundscapes to stand in the way. The band transports listeners to a new dimension, capturing a world without hope or light, arriving at a veritable day of reckoning. After releasing the underrated postrock classic Nord in 2006, Year of No Light returned this year to deliver Ausserwelt, an outstanding ambient postrock / postmetal album. Ausserwelt explores soundscapes deeply rooted in a vast array of human emotions, setting the band apart from their peers and breathing new life into a stagnating genre. In addition to performing Ausserwelt on Thursday, April 14th at the 013, Year of No Light will also provide the soundtrack to the 1932 horror classic Vampyr at the Midi Theatre on Friday, April 15th during Roadburn 2011. Vampyr, one of the first horror movies with sound, is the work of the highly influential Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer. After directing the monumental La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc in 1928, Dreyer decided to make this modest film based on the novel In a Glass Darkly by Sheridan Le Fanu. Originally conceived as a silent film, Vampyr was Dreyer’s first sound film. Year of no Light comments: “Ten years after its inception, the sleeping village that is YONL will awaken to perform again at the mythical Roadburn festival. Needless to say, we are highly honored to be part of such a great event. Our first appearance in 2008 coincided with the end of chapter and the original line-up parting ways. It was also an opportunity for us to share the Batcave stage with Dirk of FFB, an artist we profoundly love and respect. Three years later, Roadburn remains a very special place for us. And quite a challenging one indeed! Rising from the ashes with a new and expended line up, YONL, now backed by three guitars and two drummers, will present its latest sonic offering and show our devotion to C.T. Dreyer.” With respect to The Vampyr soundtrack project, Bordeaux promoter Guillaume Gwardeath says: “Year of No Light performed the original live soundtrack for the motion picture Vampyr for the first time during the Printemps des Cinéconcerts in Bordeaux, France, in May 2010. I really wanted to have [the band] on the bill of the Cineconcerts event. Each year, I invite a local band to produce an original musical work to perform during the festival for an audience comprising indie music and film enthusiasts. I had already managed to recruit death metal virtuosos Gojira to provide the live soundtrack to a Maciste Sword-and-Sandal epic. The result was amazing. Putting live metal at maximum volume to a fantasy film works really well. The audience is glued to their seat, totally breathless. With Vampyr, the entire Year of No Light team – including the sound and light engineers – were closely involved in the project and the finished production made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I saw it! Their music ideally suits the gloomy atmosphere of Dreyer’s seminal masterpiece. It adds a new dimension to a tale of the struggle between shadow and light. I am delighted that we can bring our homegrown project to theatres and festivals in Europe. The band will appear at Roadburn Festival’s Midi Theatre on Friday, April 15th, 2011, Tilburg, Holland. Pairing prog, proto hard rock and meaningful lyrics with the very soul of metallic drivin’ acid blues, the London-based trio released their debut album Volume 1 in mid ’73. Despite the buzz surrounding their debut and critical acclaim, commercial success proved out of reach. Apparently, Volume 1 was too ahead of its time to catch on with a larger audience. This, along with record label apathy, forced the band to fold before the year was In the meantime, Volume I has become a highly sought-after relic from the early 70′s British (prog) rock boom, and rightfully hailed as a bona fide classic. Various reissues have kept both the album and the spirit of Incredible Hog alive, not only among proto-hard rock and prog-rock connoisseurs but also in the contemporary ‘stoner rock’ scene. Rise Above Relics, led by Cathedral‘s Lee Dorrian, is currently working on a definitive re-issue of Volume 1, the sole album of Incredible Hog. Bassist Jim Holmes comments: “We haven’t gigged together for well over 35 years. We’ve talked about reforming loads of times but at least one of us was always busy playing in another band. The opportunity to play a prestigious gig like Roadburn has made all the difference. We’re definitely all up for this and can’t wait. It’ll be amazing.” “This is a great scoop to get one of the UK’s coolest underground hard rock bands of the early 70’s to reform for the Roadburn setting” , says Lee Dorrian. “It’s been an honour working with the guys on a detailed reissue of Volume 1 that Rise Above Relics is currently putting together. They are still very passionate about what they do, and I’m certain they won’t disappoint. We’re in for a treat – all hail the Hog!”

We are extremely proud to announce that Circle will be Artists-In-Residence at the 2011 Roadburn Festival, April 14-16 at the Midi Theatre, Tilburg, Holland. Circle and side project Pharaoh Overlord will be bringing their relentless riffs and genre-destroying musical virtuosity back to Roadburn for the first time since 2007. Circle will be drawing from their enormous (33+ full length records!) discography to play two completely different sets from their 2010 European tour. With their style ranging from psychedelic rock to free jazz, with literally dozens of other genres between, they has been one of the most diverse musical groups of our time, and if there was ever a band designed to play multiple sets at a festival, it would be Circle. Not only do they have literally hundreds of songs to choose from, but they are also extremely creative and capable of musically changing styles and sounds at the drop of a studded leather hat. Add in their bizarre-but-consummate showmanship, and you have a compelling recipe for maximum entertainment. Circle spin-off band Pharaoh Overlord will be playing for one set as well, and anyone who saw them in 2007 knows that it will be something quite unforgettable. They take stoner rock and deconstruct it to it’s most minimal form, The Riff, resulting in music that is akin to well-muscled instrumental kraut rock. Combining their deliberate heaviness with a unique on-stage delivery, they induce a psychotropic stoner-sufi trance that is as much a riff worship ritual as it is a musical performance. After a 4-year recording hiatus, they have recently released their new album, Siluurikaudella.

Я всегда говорил, что жители Туманного Альбиона, не очень сильны в исполнении блэк мИтола Я бы их вообще не звали, есть получше группы

PhillO))): небольшой процент говнеца должен быть на каждом фесте так можно сконцентрироваться на достойных и интересных группах. да и просто пивка попить, перекурить а вообще там 4 сцены. если вдруг где-то залип и разочаровался, уже через пол минуты можешь найти себе чегонить повкусу.

Fear not, however – we are continuing to work on additional acts from all fields, whether post-rock, dark psychedelica, stonerrock,doom, heavy psych or avant-metal, and we will always mix classic sounds with the cutting edge. If we’re adding a band to the line-up, it’s because either we feel they need to be heard, or that the recent performances or recordings by these bands deserve them a slot on the bill. There are no politics here, just the music that keeps us inspired and which moves us. In the end, we always strive to bring you a well-balanced festival, and we’re in talks with dozens of bands, so the acts announced so far are only the tip of the iceberg. Rest assured that we have a lot of interesting tricks up our sleeve, all of which will come to light by the time that pre-sales begin later this year. (We don’t know the exact date that pre-sales will begin just yet, but the pre-sale date will be announced shortly).
